Creative Arts

Creative Arts K-6 addresses the art forms of Visual Arts, Music, Drama and Dance.

In Visual Arts students develop knowledge, skills and understanding in making artworks. They investigate different subject matter such as people, objects and places; use a variety of expressive forms such as painting, drawing and sculpture; and learn to consider the audience of their art work.

In Music students develop knowledge, skills and understanding in performing music. By singing, playing and moving, they learn music of different styles and from different times and cultures. They also learn to organise sound into musical compositions using concepts such as pitch duration and dynamics.

In Drama students develop knowledge, skills and understanding in making drama. Students work collaboratively, taking on roles and creating imagined situations. Their performances will be shaped by a variety of drama forms such as mime, puppetry and storytelling.

In Dance, students develop knowledge, skills and understanding of dance. They will compose and perform their own dances using the elements and contexts of dance from different times and cultures.

Human Society & Its Environment (HSIE)

Human Society and Its Environment (HSIE) was previously known as Social Studies.

In this course students learn about the people in Australia and other parts of the world; and the social and physical environments in which they live.

They also develop particular skills in:

• Acquiring information.
• Using an enquiry process.
• Social and civic participation.

This course also contributes to the development of skills from other key learning areas, such as reading, writing, graphing, designing and making, and visually representing an idea or viewpoint.

Students are also encouraged to develop positive values and attitudes about themselves, others, the world that they live in and their future.
